Floor Installation

1. What is hardwood?

Wood is a natural product composed of cellulose fibers bound together by lignin. Hardwoods are wood species whose heartwood is denser than softwoods. The density of hardwoods varies from 1.6 to 2.2 g/cm³. Hardwood floors are typically constructed using solid or engineered hardwood planks.

2. Why choose hardwood over laminate?

Laminate flooring is a synthetic material that looks like real wood. Laminate is usually installed over plywood subflooring and comes in many different styles and colors. Some people prefer laminate because it’s easy to install and maintain. However, hardwood flooring lasts longer and requires less maintenance.

3. How do I care for my hardwood floors?

The best way to keep hardwood floors looking great is to clean them regularly. Use warm water and a mild detergent to remove dirt and dust. Wipe down the floor with a damp cloth after cleaning. If you have pets, be sure to vacuum the area around the baseboards and under furniture.

Floor Repairs

1. Can hardwood floors be repaired (YES)

Hardwood floors are beautiful, durable, and long lasting. They are also expensive. If you have a damaged or worn out hardwood floor, you may want to consider having it professionally restored.

2. What type of wood?

There are many types of hardwoods available, including oak, maple, birch, cherry, mahogany, walnut, and others. Each type of wood has different characteristics and requires different methods of repair. For example, oak is much harder than maple and will require a stronger adhesive to hold the boards together.

3. How old is the floor?

The age of your floor will affect the type of adhesive you need to use. Hardwood floors should last 50 years or longer. The older the floor, the less likely it is that you will be able to get a good bond between the boards.

4. Is the floor level?

If the floor is uneven, you may need to raise or lower it before applying adhesive.
